Via Eugene Byrne’s twitter feed, I learn about the Daily Mail Group’s new local news & comment websites “local people”.The one for Redland is:
Local People is a network of websites for people to get together and discuss the issues affecting their communities. Local People can help you find and communicate with people with similar interests, look up information about businesses in your area, read and write local news stories and see what’s going on where you live and work.
First thing I spot is a post from Sarah20093 entitled:
You Have Until The End Of Today To Comment On Redland Bus Changes
Bus passengers in Bristol have until the end of today [Note – article dated 30 June 2009] to comment on changes to some services.First came up with its proposals for services 8 and 9, which serve Temple Meads, Clifton and Redland, and buses 24 and 25, which run between Lockleaze and Ashton Vale.First is planning to withdraw 8A and 9A and serve the route with buses 8 and 9 only, with five buses running every hour during the day from Mondays to Saturdays
It’s not easy to work out if Sarah20093 is a journalist or a punter, but regardless one of the first comments made on her article is:
To be honest, if it makes the buses arrive on time then I am for it. At least that way you can rely on the services and maybe then more people will put their faith in them and use public transport. I liked the idea the Bristol City transport leader councillor Jon Rogers had: "Bristol needs free buses every three minutes".

Plug that image into the TinEye image search engine and it turns out to be an American actress called Alexis Bledel who probably doesn’t take the Number 9 to Temple Meads very often. Then again maybe the Lib Dems have captured the niche Redland-Hollywood commuter vote.
It’s all in public beta, as is fashionable these days, and there aren’t many users – local reporter “Coops” is on there, as is Elvis. There is not much local news. But the concept looks very interesting, and I’m sure it will develop.
There are also microsites for Bedminster, Clifton, Westbury-On-Trym, Kingswood, Keynsham, Weston Super Mare and Yate.
