Amish Pink Eggs

Wikipedia says this is a Pennsylvania Dutch delicacy, and that’s good enough for me.

Recipe:

  • Buy Eggs, Beetroot, Vinegar, Glass Jar.
  • Give Eggs, Beetroot, Vinegar, Glass Jar to wife
  • Wait two weeks
  • Eat Eggs
  • Buy something nice for the wife (optional)

And that’s it: Amish Pink Eggs.

(Serving Suggestion: i.e. put them on a plate)

World’s largest Advertising hoardings

Via Coyote Blog and Virtual Globetrotting:

It’s three years old now, but still fun. This is a satellite image of an 8,000 square metre Colonel Sanders (KFC) logo which is visible from space. It’s in Nevada not far from the infamous Area 51, which is targeting the small but influential extra-terrestrial chicken-lover market. I have been unable to obtain an official denial that there are unconfirmed rumours from an anonymous source that Miss Millies are investigating something similar for Bristol.

This is not the world’s largest item of commercial advertising, however.

In 2007, Dubai’s Sorouh Real Estate created a 20,000 square metre ad for passengers arriving and departing Dubai’s International Airport:

That record was broken by current holders – last I heard – Betfair with their 436,000 square metre display at the 2008 Euro championships, designed to be seen by punters flying in to Vienna airport.

This one doesn’t look as good from space, though:

BBC’s The Restaurant

Honestly, you can’t even go out for a quick bite to eat these days without tripping over a camera crew.

The BBC are filming a third season of apprentice-for-foodies series “The Restaurant” (which I must confess I’ve never seen). And one of the contestants is an Antipodean (update: he's from Melbourne) bloke running “The Summer House” on Whiteladies Road; which until January of this year was Deason’s

I feel some sympathy for the sound man, trying to record interviews using a huge boom microphone, with bikes, cars and buses revving past.

About £20 per head for food and drinks. Lovely potted rabbit, big Waldorf salad (grapes instead of apples). Lamb Kebabs nicely pink. Service a bit slow; had to remind them to take my cheque.
