Electron Boy Saves Seattle

Via Greg van Eekhout and Eugene Byrne:

Thursday was shaping up to be just another school day for 13-year-old Erik Martin, but then something extraordinary happened: Spider-Man called.

electronboy

Spider-Man happens to be one of the few people who knows that Erik, too, has a secret identity — he's Electron Boy, a superhero who fights the powers of evil with light.

And Spider-Man needed Erik's help.

Erik, who is living with liver cancer, has always wanted to be a superhero. On Thursday, the regional chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him that wish with an elaborate event that involved hundreds of volunteers in Bellevue and Seattle.

Full story at the Seattle Times.

Note – Electron Boy’s secret identity should never be revealed to the forces of darkness. So don’t tell.

Police Appeal following Copper Theft

Nobody likes a bent copper. You can’t get them in the machines.

Police are asking to residents in Bristol to be vigilant following several incidents of copper theft.

In recent weeks copper piping has been stolen from a number of electricity sub-stations in North Bristol. Concentrated in the BS9 and BS10 areas offenders have been breaking into the substations and stealing the copper piping inside. To do this they are pulling out plugs carrying 11,000 volts which puts themselves at risk but can send extra voltage to nearby homes and damage electrical appliances.

Speaking about the offences, Detective Constable Matt Stanford from Southmead CID said: "These offences are mainly in the North Bristol area in places such as Henbury Road and Sea Mills. The people committing these offences need to be aware of the danger they are putting themselves in. They also put at risk homes in the surrounding area which could well damage televisions and other electrical equipment. Homeowners can us tackle the problem, and in doing so reduce the risk of their homes being affected by remaining vigilant and reporting anything suspicious to the police."

Anyone with information should contact Southmead CID on 0845 456 7000. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-org.uk - they never ask your name or trace your call. Call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org We never ask for your name or trace your call.

Copper is currently trading on the London Metals Exchange at USD $7,384.00 per tonne, which is about £4.87 a kilogram. Not really worth the danger, I think. For example:

John Roberts, aged 39, then fled from Park Mills before driving to his girlfriend's house in Bramley in a panic where his hair, skin and t-shirt began burning off.

Mr Roberts, of Winrose Avenue, Belle Isle, died in the burns unit at Pinderfields General Hospital 10 days later where he had 37 per cent burns.

That’s one of almost a million search results for “copper thief death

Michael J. McCabe

1714-MichaelJMcCabe

Michael McCabe , 42 , worked in the equity trading department of Cantor Fitzgerald, a company he had only recently joined.  A lifelong resident of Rumson, New Jersey, he graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Middletown and Rutgers University.

After 18 years at Prudential Securities, Michael J. McCabe quit in June 2001. He took a trading job at a Cantor Fitzgerald office near his Rumson, N.J., home so he could convert commuter time into family time. He took the summer off so he could spend it with his wife, Lynn, and their three children. There were lazy days at the Jersey Shore, barbecues, swimming. There was a glorious late-summer stay at a rented house in Provence with his best friend of 40 years and their wives.

He started work for Cantor at the World Trade Center exactly one week before the attacks of September 11th, 2001. The stint was supposed to last only a month or so, while the company completed work on its Shrewsbury, N.J., office.

Mr. McCabe, 42, was an unpretentious man with a ready laugh, happy in his own skin, his family and friends said. He was a big guy, strong enough to rescue several people over the years from the surf. "We sort of thought that if anybody could come out of this, Mike could," said his sister Mary Ellen McCabe.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Shannon, and remembered still by his wife , Lynn , two daughters and a son , his parents , two sisters and two brothers. He was honoured by the congregation of the Holy Cross Church of Rumson, and by the The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in the City of New York, of which he was an active member.

Mike McCabe was my uncle and he left behind plenty of people who love and miss him. He had 3 kids who are my cousins and a loving wife lynn. They lived in New Jersey and was really special to me. I remember sitting on his lap looking at his cool braces! haha.My uncle Mike was a really great person and he was described always a kind person. I feel like i should of treasured him more or something. We now have what is called a "Mike" or golf tournament in his honor and also his friend Mikes honor. They died together. I miss him so much and i wish he was still here with us <3 I love you and miss you R.IP MJM

I pray for: Regan McCabe, Lynn McCabe Cassidy McCabe Liam McCabe and the rest of the McCabe/ Hemberger family
